Please remember that this is our best estimate (November 2025).

  • Accommodation

Apartments. Budget €400-€500 per month for a shared apartment. Students can share a furnished apartment for around €500-€700 per month. The apartments are usually large and spacious, and many students share, keeping costs low. Students can stay in our serviced apartments for €380 to €460 per month.

  • To eat

Budget €50-70 per person per month in a shared apartment. Fruit and vegetables are readily available and inexpensive. Supermarkets offer a good selection with a wide range of imported and exotic products. There are numerous street vendors, soft drink and juice shops, bakeries, and mini-markets. Fast food is readily available, with almost all major multinationals serving local Lebanese, Chinese, and kebab, falafel, and mezzanine shops. Nearly all eateries offer home delivery.

  • Eating out

Budget €70-100 per month. There are literally hundreds of restaurants and cafes in the city. All types of food are available. If you eat out once a week, that's around €100 per month. Note, however, that it's difficult to estimate exactly how much you'll spend, as it depends on whether you choose a 5-star restaurant or something more modest! Also, remember that generally (though it depends on where you eat), menu prices exclude local taxes and service charges, which are added at the end of the meal. A tip of around 10 percent of the dinner cost (excluding taxes and service charges) is often expected.

  • Clothing

Budget around €100 if you're bringing most of your clothes. It's not always warm in Morocco, Jordan, and Egypt, and for the months of December through January, you'll need winter clothes. Daytime temperatures are 16-20°C (60-68°F) and nighttime temperatures around 5-6°C (41-44°F). The Arab clothing industry is large, and there are many different options for buying clothes. It's difficult to estimate how much you'll actually spend on clothing, as that depends on your personal preferences.

  • Travel & Holidays

Budget around €200 per month. Taxis are the main mode of transport and are very cheap. You can also use public buses, but they are very crowded and not very efficient. The metro and tram are clean and reliable, but not very extensive. Most students want to see as much of the city as possible and take advantage of this during their stay. Most of the main areas to visit are easily accessible. Intercity flights, buses, and trains are the best forms of transport. Flights are, of course, the most expensive way to travel, but are worth it for longer journeys. There is usually a wide range of choices and travel deals available, and we are always happy to offer advice and regularly offer one or two day trips through a trusted tour operator.

  • Utilities

Budget: €70 per person per month in a shared apartment. Water, telephone, and electricity in your apartment will be your own responsibility. We recommend using your own mobile phone with a prepaid card, especially for international calls. You can use an internet dongle, but students can also use the free Wi-Fi and computer lab at Go Arabic. The amount above the allocated bill takes into account that you might use the air conditioner, but it should never be running while you're out, to avoid unnecessary costs!

  • Other costs

Budget around €50 per month So, our best estimate (November 2013) is around €300 per month for living expenses (excluding accommodation).
